"Of all the tutors in the city," Adrian Valois had just said, "how fascinating that you should be the one to tame my son and his beast in a single afternoon."
My heart was racing. This couldn't be happening. Adrian Valois - the father of my ex-mate's fiancée, the man who'd propositioned me - was now potentially my employer?
"Mr. Valois, I didn't know—" I started to explain.
"Didn't you?" He raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "You expect me to believe this is mere coincidence?"
His tone was accusatory, and anger flared inside me. How dare he assume I'd seek him out after how he'd treated me?
"Marcus!" Adrian barked suddenly, making me jump.
The butler appeared immediately. "Yes, sir?"
"What is this woman doing in my house?" Adrian demanded, his eyes never leaving mine.
Marcus looked confused. "She's here for the tutoring position, sir. As we discussed yesterday."
"And you left her alone with my son?" Adrian's voice was dangerously low.
