"Let no one be found among you who… practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft… Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord."
— Deuteronomy 18:10–12 (NIV)
What we choose to gaze upon reveals what we welcome into our hearts. In today's media, occult themes and dark symbols are often packaged as harmless fun—magic, spells, horror, the supernatural, even demonic elements portrayed as cool or desirable. But God is not silent about this.
He calls such things detestable, not entertaining.
🔥 What the World Calls "Fun," God Calls "Forbidden"
From horror movies to shows about witches, demons, psychics, and curses—our culture has normalized darkness. But when we invite those images into our sight, we open the door of our spirit to bondage.
These things are not neutral. Scripture makes it clear:
"Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them." — Ephesians 5:11
When we enjoy darkness, we allow it to influence our thoughts, dreams, and spiritual sensitivity. Repeated exposure can dull our conviction and even attract spiritual oppression.
👁️ Insight: Fiction Doesn't Make It Harmless
Some argue, "It's just fiction," but even fictional exposure to evil feeds the flesh and warps the soul. If watching sorcery, horror, or demonic content causes fear, fascination, or obsession, it is already bearing bad fruit.
God's command wasn't just to avoid doing sorcery—but to stay far from it.
🙏 How to Guard Against Occult Imagery
Cleanse your digital space
Remove shows, movies, games, and music that involve magic, spells, dark symbols, or demonic themes.
Ask for discernment
Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal anything that grieves Him in your media life.
Fill your mind with light
Replace dark content with Scripture, worship, and faith-building stories.
Don't flirt with fear
Horror and spiritual darkness often breed anxiety and confusion—not wisdom or joy.
🧎 Prayer to Renounce Darkness
"Lord, I repent for allowing occult and evil images into my life. I now see that what You call detestable, I have sometimes called entertainment. Cleanse my heart and eyes. Break every spiritual tie formed through what I have watched. Fill my life with Your light and truth, and help me walk in purity, free from darkness. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen."
