For days, Sona had been going to work like a ghost. Her eyes were downcast and her face was sad. She hadn't smiled in a long time. After that message, everything became foggy. The girl almost stopped eating. While her mother and Mina ate dinner, Sona stared blankly at her plate. Even when someone spoke to her, her thoughts were elsewhere.
Everything should have been different because she finally had the chance to fulfill her dream of working a prestigious job and earning enough money so that she wouldn't have to worry about tomorrow. But, for some reason, this did not make her happy. Why? Why did that message come at such an inopportune moment? Why now and not two months ago when she was waiting for a response to her résumé? Why? Why did she fall in love with Yungi? Why was her heart overflowing with this wonderful feeling?
Yoongi hadn't been to the BigHit building in two weeks. The Bangtan Boys had just made a comeback, and their schedule was busier than ever: Fan meetings, performances, live broadcasts, and TV recordings. The guys were used to this schedule by now, and these periods were becoming easier to get through. But not for Yoongi. He felt terrible, didn't sleep at night, and became taciturn and aloof. As soon as he had a free minute, he immediately sought solitude but always returned with a sad expression on his face.
It was all because Sona hadn't responded to any of his messages since he left. All sorts of thoughts came to his mind, and they were usually negative. However, when he found out that they were being given a two-day break, he was happy because he would finally be able to see Sona and find out what had happened.
Sona sat on the windowsill, watching lonely passersby hide under umbrellas from the pouring rain. Drops ran down the glass in streams. The wind whistled through the window crack. Her heart felt so heavy that she didn't want anything.
Mom was at the diner, and, as usual, Mina was watching the show with her friends. It was a good thing BTS wasn't on today's broadcast because Sona would have felt even worse otherwise.
The phone on the table was flooded with messages arriving every ten to twenty minutes. But the girl didn't even look at it. Finally, unable to stand the constant ringing anymore, Mina jumped up from the couch and rushed to her sister's phone. She nervously began scrolling through the unread messages. When she saw who they were from and found a photo of Jungkook to confirm the sender's identity, she froze in place.
"What is this?" Mina asked, poking the phone screen in front of her. The girl slowly shifted her empty gaze from the window to the screen. She read the last message: "I'm coming home. See you soon." Tears appeared in her eyes and rolled down her cheeks."Hey, what's wrong?" her sister asked, alarmed by the tears. When Sona began to cry, choking on her tears, her sister panicked. "Hey, don't cry! Why are you crying?" But her sister didn't stop for a moment.
Desperate, Mina rushed to her sister and hugged her. She tried to calm her down, holding her close and stroking her head, but nothing helped. Sona cried like a madwoman. She sobbed intermittently. She was in so much pain that it felt like her heart was about to burst. She screamed at the top of her lungs. She knew she had to choose between her dream and her feelings immediately, but she wasn't ready to do so.
"I... love... love..." she managed to say, swallowing her tears. "I love... Yoongi," she sobbed.
"Is that why you're crying?" Mina asked.
"I love Yoongi," she repeated.
After twenty long minutes of sitting in her arms, Sona finally calmed down. However, the pain did not go away; it only subsided for a moment. The girl could barely get up from the cold windowsill before falling to her knees on the floor after taking a few steps. Mina fell after her. She hugged her again because it hurt to see her older sister in such a state.
"Mina, what should I do?" she whispered, looking at her sister with big eyes and waiting for an answer. "I'm not ready to make a choice in anyone's favor right now. Your happiness with Mom is the most important thing to me. But he has become too dear to me in such a short period of time."
"I can't help you, sister. You have to make the decision yourself. I think he will understand, because he was probably in a similar situation once himself. Now, everything depends on your choice."
"I know, but it's so hard for me," Sona said, exhaling heavily. A hot tear ran down her cheek. "So, you're not mad at me?" she suddenly changed the subject.
"Why would I be mad?
"Well, about the fact that I'm dating Yoongi?"
"Why on earth would I be angry with you?" Mina giggled. "Yes, you sometimes annoy me. Sometimes I want to kill you. But you're my sister. I want you to be happy, even if you found happiness with my favorite bias."
"Thank you for being there for me," she said, hugging her sister even tighter.
Late in the evening, Sona finally replied to Yoongi's last message. "We need to talk," she wrote, her heart aching. Every second brought them closer to the day of their meeting, and her heart broke a little more with each one.
The weather was still gloomy, and it had gotten even colder. Sona was already waiting for Yoongi on the banks of the Han River. She looked for a guy wearing a black jacket, a mask, and glasses. She tried to find the right words to say when they met.
She turned around and saw a young man with white skin and hair peeking out from under his hat. Today, he wasn't wearing a mask or glasses. Wearing a brown coat and a Kumamon hat, he happily rushed toward her. He grabbed her by the waist, lifted her off the ground, and kissed her.
"Why didn't you reply to my messages?" he asked sweetly. "I thought something had happened. I was worried."
"I'm sorry. I was busy," the girl replied, almost in a whisper.
"Oh, I'm so tired. I thought I wouldn't live to see our next meeting," he said happily while holding her hand. He talked about the past two weeks without her. But Sona could hardly hear him because of the thoughts buzzing in her head. How could she tell him? How could she explain that she had chosen her mother and sister's happiness over his? Tomorrow, she would fly far across the ocean.
"I'm flying to New York tomorrow," she interrupted. Yoongi fell silent in an instant. He stopped in the middle of the road. He exhaled heavily.
"All right," Sona heard him say.
"What?"
"All right." He turned to face her.
"You're just accepting this?" the girl asked in surprise.
"Yes." He nodded. "If that's what you want, I support you." He smiled and held out his bent little finger to her. He held out his bent little finger to her. "Sona, I promise you that I will wait for you. I will wait as long as it takes. I promise." Without hesitation, Sona happily grabbed Yoongi's finger, thus sealing the promise.
"And I promise that I will come back to you."
"I love you," the boy whispered in her ear as he hugged his beloved.
The next evening, Sona's plane flew over the ocean. Now, hundreds of kilometers separated them.
