Chapter 39 - The Elf

She gestures towards Artemis for him to follow her, not really responding to his previous question. He doesn't hesitate to follow her since he knows that the last time they fought, he won.

The group follows closely behind him as the keeper brings them to a more private area away from where the fight took place.

I don't exactly know what she's trying to do so it's a bit harder to understand if she's an enemy still or not. She doesn't have to be attacking me right this second to be considered my enemy still.

"Can I join you?" She asks with a softness to her voice.

That caught me off guard completely, I didn't think she'd be asking to join me after everything that happened. We fought against each other and I'm even fighting against the very things she wants.

It just doesn't add up on why she'd join us instead of fighting for her causes. Then again she did tell me about the general and where to find him.

Artemis stands there with his arms crossed and gives a look back towards the others before answering. The party doesn't seem to have an issue with it but they don't even know who she is.

"Before I can answer that, who are you? I don't mean your keeper nickname either." Artemis asks with a calm tone to his voice.

She slowly removes her mask, revealing her green eyes, her long white hair with slight curls to it, and what appears to be elf ears. "My name is Sylvara Liora. You can go with either or when talking to me, I prefer Liora typically but wouldn't be offended." She introduces herself with a calmness in her demeanor.

I didn't expect to meet an elf like this but I can't say that I've got any complaints about it. I'd definitely be okay with having her in the party as long as there's not any issues with this going forward.

I'll have to trust that she won't do anything to betray us, but we have enough people to handle the situation if it occurs.

"I'm Artemis, that's Amelia, Shimada, and Cynthia." He says while gesturing towards each one as he says there names.

She gives a small bow to them before looking back towards Artemis. "Does that mean I can join you?" She asks with a bit of worry in her voice.

"Yes, but do you have any idea where we should go next?" Artemis responds with a curious look in his eyes.

I'll hope that she can lead us to the next possible target amongst these followers.

The others didn't seem to have a problem with her either, especially after the respectful bow she gave. None of them expected her to give one or needed it from her but it was a gesture of good Faith.

"I'll be happy to lead the way but we should rest up before leaving at the very least." Liora suggests.

It probably would be a good idea to get some rest before we travel more since that was quite the chaotic day. I'll have to be a bit more cautious tonight since she's new to the party but that won't be a big deal.

Shimada proved to be a trustworthy companion in the long run so I don't see why she couldn't be seen that way after a couple days too.

The only difference between them is that she was originally an enemy of ours before this all happened.

"Rest would be wise. Have a place in mind to stay at?" Shimada speaks up while watching her reaction closely.

"A room at an old building just before the end of the road here. I bought it a long time ago so we don't have to worry about anyone being nosey." Liora answers with confidence.

It's definitely a bit odd that she'd just have a place here already but everyone else seems to be trusting her so far. Or maybe it's better to say everyone's being cautious?

The party followed Liora down the road till they reached the one old building of the whole place. It was almost like a shop, but a lot smaller. Upon entering the building they could see everything was definitely old and didn't look like it was touched in a long time.

Old books, dusty counters, and some rusted weapons hung about the room. "It stays this way so people don't try to bother with it, the room is back here." Liora says while leading the way.

The room in the back was a lot more cleaned up and well kept, there appeared to be a couple of bed rolls around for use but it wasn't anything crazy. Definitely better than the previous sight in the other room.

Liora is definitely going to be an interesting addition to the party but at least I know what her specialty is so far. I've got a good idea of the others but her skills were demonstrated in our fight.

Then again, not everything was shown to me since I ended the fight a bit quicker than she anticipated. I'm sure she had a few tricks up her sleeve to use.

My party could be a lot stronger than I thought— Not that I ever thought that they were weak to begin with or anything. They'll be able to help me in the next fight we have.

Magic will be beneficial and we have plenty of swordsman to help for the up close and personal parts of battle.

Shimada stands in the middle of the room and looks around. "Quite a marvelous hideaway for a beautiful elf." He says with a bit of excitement.

There's the good old Shimada, the one that's been pretty quiet since our camp stop.

"Prince Shimada, the man who is obsessed with every woman he comes across. Thanks for the compliment about my hideout." Liora replies with more of a monotone voice.

I could see the disappointed look on his face and I want to laugh but it would only crush him more. At least this will make the more serious times bearable.
