After dropping the three girls off at Elena's house, Kevin bid them farewell and drove directly to Stefan's home.
"Stefan, open up!" Kevin called, knocking on Stefan's door.
"Kevin? What are you doing here?" Stefan asked, surprised to see Kevin when he opened the door.
"Relax, I said three days, and I'm not here today to kill your brother. I just want to make sure you two actually leave in a couple of days. You know the situation with Caroline; it's not appropriate for me to be guarding her anymore. And your brother got agitated again today, so it's safer for me to keep an eye on you both," Kevin explained as he walked right into Stefan's house without waiting for an invitation.
"Alright, well, I'll get a room ready for you," Stefan said and went off to prepare a room.
Kevin didn't have to wait long before Stefan had a room ready. Kevin, not standing on ceremony, went straight in to rest. The next morning, he woke up ready for some entertainment.
"Thought about where you're going yet?" Stefan asked Damon.
"Don't know. Maybe London, visit some old friends," Damon replied.
"Damon, you don't have any friends," Stefan said, digging at him.
"You're right, Stefan. I only have you. So, where are we going?" Damon admitted frankly.
"'We' aren't going anywhere. I'm going to stay as far away from you as possible," Stefan stated directly, expressing his desire to distance himself from Damon.
"But we're brothers! We could travel the world. We could even sign up for some reality shows," Damon said, clearly not wanting to separate from Stefan and offering suggestions.
"Sounds interesting. Seriously though, where are you going? We can't just stay in town," Stefan replied perfunctorily, then pressed Damon again.
Kevin was just enjoying the show when there was a knock on the door. Stefan opened it to find Caroline's mother, Liz Forbes.
"I need to see Damon," Liz stated directly.
Before Stefan could call him, Damon walked out himself. As if it were a confidential matter, Damon led Liz into the backyard to talk. Kevin watched them; Damon hadn't come back out yet, but Stefan's brow was furrowing deeper and deeper, a clear sign that it probably wasn't good news. Not long after, Liz left Stefan's house.
"What the hell did you do now? Did you go on another killing spree?" Stefan demanded, rushing up and grabbing Damon by the collar the moment the door closed.
"Let go of me. One, don't touch me. Two, if I killed someone, I wouldn't leave any loose ends. Three, there's another vampire in town," Damon said, shrugging off Stefan's hand.
"That's impossible," Stefan said, disbelieving.
"Obviously, there is," Damon asserted.
"Who could it be?" Stefan wondered aloud.
"Could it possibly be your friend Lexi?" Kevin, who had been listening from the side, chimed in.
"Impossible. Lexi left yesterday morning," Stefan stated confidently.
"Then there's another possibility: Damon is lying. Stefan, do you still believe him? I'm thinking maybe you guys shouldn't leave after all," Kevin said, walking over to a solid wood chair and running his hand over it.
"Hey, this has nothing to do with us! We're both supposed to be leaving!" Damon said hurriedly, seeing the killing intent in Kevin's eyes.
"Alright," Kevin said, thinking it over and deciding not to risk it. If Damon escaped, finding him would be difficult. Another reason was that Kevin hadn't slept at all the previous night and hadn't seen Damon leave the house, though he couldn't be sure if Damon had slipped out a window.
"No, I can't leave now. We need to find that person," Stefan said, worried that another vampire in Mystic Falls would endanger Elena.
"Well, good luck with that. You two still have to be gone by tomorrow," Kevin retorted, not caring about their concerns. After all, these were just their words; Kevin hadn't heard anything Liz said, so there was no way he'd just let them stay.
"Damon, do you have any ideas?" Stefan asked Damon for help.
"Just leave it to the adults to handle, Stefan," Damon said and walked off.
Stefan watched Damon leave, then turned and rushed off to find Elena. Kevin, bored, drove to the school. Honestly, if the "system" option at the beginning hadn't required him to be a student, and if he wasn't sure whether dropping out would affect his Talismans, Kevin wouldn't even bother going.
When Kevin arrived at school, he saw Stefan and Elena whispering to each other. Kevin didn't disturb them and walked over to the edge of the field, found a grassy spot, and lay down. Perhaps it was due to all the recent stress, plus not sleeping at all the previous night; he soon drifted off into a daze. By the time Kevin woke up, it was already dark. He saw the school lights were still on but didn't go over to join the crowd, instead planning to drive somewhere to sort out his dinner.
As Kevin was driving, he noticed a car pass by him. Inside was Logan Fell, the man Sarah had mentioned Damon had killed/fed on. Because Kevin had chatted with Sarah earlier, she had mentioned how she recognized Logan, a relatively famous news anchor, as the source of the human blood she had been given when she transformed. So, Kevin knew this Logan was likely the newly turned vampire.
The critical thing was that Caroline was slumped in the passenger seat, and the car window beside her was stained with blood.
Kevin immediately accelerated, overtook Logan's car, and cut him off. Before Kevin could even get out of his car, Stefan and Damon arrived, pulling Logan out of his vehicle.
"Caroline, are you okay?" Kevin, grabbing a wooden stake he had prepared earlier from his car, got out and first opened the car door nearest to Caroline, calling her name twice. Seeing Caroline was unconscious, Kevin immediately used the Horse Talisman to heal her.
"How's Caroline?" Stefan also came over by this time.
"She's mostly fine. You should take her home first," Kevin said, handing Caroline over to Stefan.
"Sheriff, this is Damon. Caroline is fine. We're on Elm Street," Damon said directly into Logan's phone, which was still connected to Liz Forbes.
"Alright, talk. Who turned you?" Kevin asked, walking towards Logan after seeing him hang up the phone, not saying much else.
"I told you, I don't know," Logan said.
"This iron bar could relocate your head in one go. Is that your answer?" Damon retorted, also walking over, now holding an iron bar he'd found in Logan's trunk.
"How could you side with them?" Logan asked, completely baffled as to why Damon would be working with one of the town's founding family members (implying Stefan).
"I'm not siding with anyone. You pissed me off, and I want you dead. Who turned you?" Damon replied.
"I don't know!" Logan was still being stubborn.
"Alright, you're done for," Damon said and made a move as if to smash Logan's head with the iron bar.
"Wait! I know! You think you're the only one who wants into the tomb under the church? There's another way in!" Logan instantly panicked and was about to spill everything.
"What's all this bullshit you're blabbering about?" Kevin had initially wanted to hear who turned Logan, but he hadn't expected it to lead back to the tomb. Kevin knew there were still 27 vampires in there. 'No time for this,' he thought, and directly plunged a wooden stake into Logan, killing him.
"Kevin, what are you doing?!" Damon exclaimed, pushing Kevin away, but Logan was already dead.
"You still have time to ask me what I'm doing? You've got a lot of nerve. Stefan isn't around; aren't you going to run?" Kevin said, standing up, half-intending to stake Damon as well. Just then, Liz Forbes drove up.
