After leaving Stefan's house, Kevin didn't go home but ran directly to his cabin. Once there, Kevin began to review the day's battles, analyzing his mistakes and how he should upgrade his weapons. He knew that Stefan might have had a friend like Lexi this time, but he had no idea how many more vampires he might encounter in the future.
Kevin thought about it: his main priorities were to get some vervain and find some weapons experts to customize modern anti-vampire weaponry. For example, vervain-laced grenades, or grenades where the shrapnel was replaced with hardened wooden shards. Also, like the police, he could use firearms with wooden bullets; that should at least be effective against younger vampires. After all, if Damon hadn't saved Stefan last time, Stefan probably would have been done for.
Deciding to act immediately, Kevin first went online to search for vervain. Since there was no more vervain in Mystic Falls itself—only Stefan had some, and he hadn't given Kevin what he'd promised—Kevin browsed for a short while and then placed several orders for vervain from different online stores. He mainly did this because he wasn't sure if international online shopping had shipping as fast as domestic logistics back home; by buying from multiple sources, he hoped at least one would arrive early. The sooner he got it, the better. After doing all this, Kevin went straight back to his main house to sleep. After all, his car was still at home, and running from the cabin to school the next day using the Rabbit Talisman would be a bit too conspicuous.
The next day, Kevin went to school. History class was starting anew today because a new history teacher had arrived. He didn't see Stefan, but Kevin couldn't be bothered with him; as long as Stefan got out of town after two more days, that was all that mattered.
"Good morning, everyone! Alright, Alaric Saltzman... quite a mouthful, right? I know, it's not easy to pronounce. Saltzman is a German surname; my family immigrated to Texas in 1755. However, I was born and raised in Boston. As for my first name, Alaric, it was the name of an ancestor of mine, one whom I greatly admire. You might misread it as Olaric, but the correct pronunciation is A-LA-RIC. Got it? You can call me Rick. I'm your new history teacher."
The history teacher's lengthy self-introduction in class almost put Kevin to sleep. After enduring the lesson, Kevin planned to ask Bonnie about the necklace, preferably to get it back. He was afraid Damon might find out she had it and put her in danger, especially since that scumbag Stefan knew he had shown the necklace to Bonnie.
"Afterwards, I found myself in the ruins of Old Fell's Church. When I woke up, I was in the woods," Bonnie was telling Elena.
"Can you always see your ancestor, Emily?" Elena asked.
"Hey Bonnie," Kevin said. He had originally planned to ask Bonnie when fewer people were around, but he saw Bonnie and Elena sitting outside chatting right after class.
"Hey Kevin, I was actually just about to look for you too," Bonnie said to Kevin.
"Do you guys believe ghosts exist?" Bonnie then told Kevin everything about recently dreaming of her ancestor, and how the necklace belonged to Emily.
"Two weeks ago, I would have said no. But now..." Elena replied.
"I think I'm being haunted by a ghost," Bonnie said before Elena could finish.
"Bonnie, did Emily say anything to you in your dreams? I think it's because of the necklace. You witches, perhaps even after death, your spirits still possess magical power and are using this necklace as a medium to communicate with you," Kevin offered his perspective.
"Grams said she was a powerful witch during the Civil War, and this necklace was her witch amulet. I also feel like she's using this necklace to communicate with me, but I don't want to accept her communication. I want all these strange things to stop," Bonnie said, clearly resistant.
"Bonnie, I'm really sorry. I didn't expect this to happen when I gave you the necklace. Try giving it back to me again. And I'm also worried Stefan might tell Damon you have it," Kevin said, holding out his hand to Bonnie.
"Stefan probably wouldn't," Elena said, defending Stefan.
"I used to trust him. But after what happened yesterday... forget it. Anyway, they should be leaving in two days. Come on, Bonnie, if I just hold the chain, it should be fine," Kevin said, too lazy to argue with this lovesick girl and directly signaling Bonnie to hand him the necklace.
"It worked!" Bonnie was clearly very happy because Kevin was holding the necklace by its chain, and her hand was already free from it.
"Then this should be fine. You two can have a sleepover tonight and see if this Emily tries to contact Bonnie again. I need to go be with Caroline," Kevin said, putting the necklace in his pocket.
"Bonnie, you should come over to my place tonight," Elena said to Bonnie.
"Okay! It's been a while since we had a sleepover," Bonnie replied, looking quite happy.
Kevin had just reached the front of the school building when he saw Caroline and Matt arguing.
"You spend the night in my bed, hold me, and then you sneak out at dawn just to avoid facing me! I have to say, your behavior is terrible, and it makes me look down on you. And now you just say 'hey' to me? Are you kidding? I mean, at the party the other day, I might have seemed like some insecure, pathetic creature, but don't mistake me for someone who's easily fooled!" Caroline was interrogating Matt.
"I heard your mom come home this morning. I didn't want to cause trouble for you, so I slipped out through the window," Matt explained to Caroline.
Kevin didn't listen any further; he knew it wasn't appropriate for him to go over there anymore. So, he turned and walked towards the entrance of another school building. It was also strange; ever since he became single, he seemed to run into couples everywhere. He saw Stefan approaching Elena.
"Stefan, a word," Kevin said. He didn't care about being a third wheel anymore; these people were leaving soon, so who cared what they thought.
"Bonnie already gave the necklace back to me. If you see Damon, let him know. I'm worried he might go looking for Bonnie for some reason," Kevin said, walking closer. His words clearly indicated he didn't trust Stefan to keep the necklace's whereabouts secret. Without waiting for a reply, he turned and left.
Stefan glanced at Elena as if asking if it was true, and Elena nodded in confirmation.
Kevin intended to go to the parking lot and drive straight home; he wasn't in the mood for anything else right now. However, in the parking lot, he encountered Damon harassing Bonnie, demanding the necklace.
"Still dare to run around alone? You really think I wouldn't make a move just because there are people around? And didn't Stefan call you to tell you the necklace is with me now?" Kevin didn't tolerate his behavior, ran over, and, catching Damon off guard, kicked him hard in the kidneys.
At that moment, the phone of the downed Damon rang. He answered, and sure enough, it was Stefan calling about the necklace.
"Kevin, give me the necklace, and I'll leave Mystic Falls immediately," Damon said to Kevin after hanging up.
"You were supposed to leave here anyway. Three days was the final deadline I gave you, not a request in exchange for the necklace," Kevin said, even pointedly taking the necklace out of his pocket and dangling it.
"I don't know what Stefan told you that made him reveal the necklace's location, but I don't believe this necklace is just some old acquaintance's keepsake to you. So, forget it. I'm not giving it to you," Kevin said, putting the necklace back in his pocket.
"I absolutely must get that necklace. Aren't you afraid I'll harm your Caroline?" Damon, truly at his wit's end with Kevin, could only resort to threatening him with Caroline again.
"Leaving aside the fact that Caroline already broke up with me, and she's probably with Matt now – Matt should be the one protecting her, not me. And if you dare to harm Caroline, frankly, you'll have absolutely no leverage left. Not to mention whether you'll survive, your brother will definitely be dead," Kevin said, his words revealing his own anger at Caroline's quick change of heart.
"Caroline and Matt are together?" Bonnie asked Kevin after Damon left.
"Probably. I was worried Damon might act recklessly earlier and was trying to watch over Caroline, so I overheard it unintentionally," Kevin told Bonnie.
