Chapter 19 - CHAPTER 19

"I think we could dress up as vampires. Don't you think it would be fun for a real vampire to go to a party dressed as a vampire?" Sarah said playfully to Kevin.

"Sounds pretty good," Kevin replied to Sarah.

"Then I'll go get two vampire costumes. You stay home and be safe, be careful not to get hit by sunlight. It's best to keep all the windows covered with curtains," Kevin said, standing up and instructing Sarah before heading out.

"Don't worry, no problem!" Sarah replied, giving Kevin an OK gesture.

Kevin first went to get the costumes custom-made, confirming they would be ready by the afternoon. Then, he called Bonnie to arrange a time, intending to show her the necklace.

"Hey! Sorry to keep you waiting," Kevin said, greeting Bonnie when he saw her waiting at their agreed spot.

"It's okay, I just got here too," Bonnie replied.

"Bonnie, can you take a look at this necklace for me? Stefan said it's a magical item, probably crafted by you witches," Kevin said, taking out the necklace and handing it to Bonnie.

"Stefan said that?" Bonnie was puzzled. She knew Kevin had superpowers and was aware she was a witch, but what was Stefan's situation?

"Oh, I thought Elena and Caroline had told you," Kevin explained. He then recounted the entire situation to Bonnie: Stefan and Damon being vampires, Elena and Caroline only finding out everything the day before. He even clarified that Sarah had been turned into a vampire by Damon and that this necklace had been snatched from Damon, likely being crucial to some plan of his.

"I've been with my Grams all weekend, so I haven't contacted them. But looking at this necklace, I don't feel anything unusual about it. It might be that my magical power isn't strong enough yet," Bonnie said, examining the necklace. Feeling nothing different, she tried to hand it back to Kevin.

"Oh, it seems this thing really is different," Kevin said. As he reached out to take the necklace, he received a slight electric shock from it. Although it didn't cause him any real harm, it clearly indicated the necklace was no ordinary item.

"It seems this necklace has chosen you; I can't even take it back. Perhaps you could take it to your Grams and let her have a look," Kevin suggested to Bonnie.

"Okay, that works. I'll take it to my Grams tonight when I go back," Bonnie told Kevin.

"By the way, how are your costume preparations for the Halloween party tonight coming along?" Kevin asked Bonnie.

"Caroline will probably get one for me. I just don't know what kind of costume she'll pick. What are you two planning to dress up as today? Like last year, Elena and Matt went as a sexy doctor and a risqué nurse; they looked pretty good together," Bonnie said. She knew Caroline had a very strong controlling streak when it came to these things, so she figured Kevin's and her own costumes were likely Caroline's decision.

"I'm not sure about Caroline's side of things. She officially broke up with me last night. Tonight, I'll be taking Sarah out for a bit, to help her practice her self-control. Her suggestion was for us to dress as vampires; I just ordered the costumes earlier," Kevin told Bonnie.

"Is it okay if I ask why you broke up?" Bonnie asked with concern.

"You know I have superpowers. But it's not just healing; I also have the ability of immortality. I confessed all this to Caroline. She couldn't accept my situation; she was worried that in a few decades, I'd still be the same, and she... well, this decision was her answer to me after thinking about it for several days," Kevin explained the reason for their breakup to Bonnie.

"I see," Bonnie said, not knowing what else to say.

"Bonnie, don't worry. It was an amicable breakup. I'm actually planning to pick Caroline up for the party later. After all, with Damon as an unpredictable factor, I'm still a bit worried about leaving Caroline on her own," Kevin reassured Bonnie.

"That's good. You're both my friends; I definitely want you two to be happy," Bonnie said, relieved by Kevin's words.

"Then I'll see you tonight. When you have time to show the necklace to your Grams, let me know if you find out anything," Kevin said to Bonnie.

"No problem," Bonnie replied.

That evening, Kevin, accompanied by Sarah—who was dressed identically to him in a vampire costume—drove to pick up Caroline. One had to say, the night passed peacefully. Damon didn't cause any trouble, and Sarah even learned to use her mind control. However, Caroline, looking at the two of them in matching vampire costumes, was clearly not in a good mood. As the party was nearing its end, she announced that there would be another party at The Grill the next day, almost as if she wanted to find a new date as soon as possible just to spite Kevin. Not that the oblivious Kevin noticed; after all, Caroline had always loved all sorts of parties.

"Are you still going to the party tomorrow?" Kevin asked Sarah later.

"Can I?" Sarah, after all, could only stay indoors during the day due to being a vampire. She was eager to go out more at night, and a party was definitely appealing.

"Seeing as you did pretty well today, I'll accompany you for some fun again tomorrow," Kevin promised Sarah.

"Yay! Kevin, you're the best!" Sarah was so happy she almost jumped for joy.

"Alright, let's get some rest then. We stayed out pretty late tonight," Kevin said goodnight to Sarah and went upstairs to sleep.

Time passed quickly, and soon it was the next evening. When Kevin arrived at The Grill with Sarah for the party, he encountered someone he didn't want to see yet, in a way, also wanted to see: Damon.

"You really have a lot of nerve," Kevin said, letting Sarah go off on her own. Now that Sarah had fed properly, she wasn't likely to easily lose control. He walked straight up to Damon.

"Where's the necklace? I asked Stefan; he said you didn't give it to him," Damon said, not answering Kevin but directly asking about the necklace.

"It's not with me right now. But I feel like I don't really need to give it back to you anymore," Kevin replied nonchalantly.

"I'll be watching you like a hawk tonight," Kevin then said to Damon.

"Hey, Lexi," Damon drawled, glancing past Kevin and greeting a woman who had just walked in. Unfortunately, the woman completely ignored Damon.

"Where's my brother?" Damon asked, walking up to Lexi when she didn't acknowledge him.

"He said to meet him here," Lexi replied dismissively without stopping, then disappeared into the dance floor.

Not long after, Stefan arrived at the party and was soon dancing and playing pool with Lexi. Lexi even tried to play matchmaker for Stefan, but Kevin wasn't much in the mood for watching drama unfold; his eyes were practically glued to Damon. Just a short while ago, when he hadn't been watching closely, Damon had slipped out. Luckily, just as Kevin was about to follow, Damon had returned. After that, Kevin didn't let Damon out of his sight.

After a little while longer, Kevin saw Caroline's mother, the Mystic Falls Sheriff, and her colleagues enter, heading straight in Sarah's direction. Kevin sensed trouble and wanted to go over. Unfortunately, the bar was too crowded. By the time Kevin managed to push his way through, Sarah had already been taken away. When Kevin tried to go out the main entrance, he was blocked by people preventing him from leaving. Kevin, already having a poor sense of direction, even secretly used the Rabbit Talisman, but by the time he found another exit and got outside, he only saw Damon plunging a wooden stake into Sarah's heart.
